The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issues a food recall notice or precautionary safety advice when a specific product does not meet their standards. The FSA has updated this warning once already and have issued further advice to consumers who have purchased British Lion eggs from Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Costco.
Only England and Wales are affected in this recall and only the batches 0UK15270, 1UK15270 and 3UK15270 are of concern.
A statement on the FSA website reads: “A very small number of the above eggs may be contaminated with salmonella, due to it being found in the environment. The eggshell surface might also be contaminated.
“Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
“As a precaution, consumers are advised to thoroughly cook the eggs listed in the tables above, this means the egg yolks and whites should not be eaten runny. This will eliminate salmonella and avoid risk of illness.”

Aldi has more eggs added to their list of affected items including the Merevale Large British Eggs and the Everyday Essentials Eggs.
Both best before dates including those up until December 1, 2020.
Aldi customers are looking for the batch code 3UK15270.
Sainsbury’s eggs which are affected including SO Organic Large Eggs, So Organic Medium Eggs, SO Organic Mixed Size Eggs, by Sainsbury’s Medium Free Range Eggs, by Sainsbury’s Large Free Range Eggs, by Sainsbury’s Very Large Free Range Eggs, by Sainsbury’s Medium Free Range Eggs, by Sainsbury’s Mixed Size Free Range Eggs and by Sainsbury’s Basics Mixed Size Barn Eggs.
Other eggs in the same batch affected are Fairburn’s Lincolnshire Mixed Size Free Range Eggs, Extra Special Mixed Sized Golden Yolk Free Range Eggs, Fairburn’s Lincolnshire Large Free Range Eggs, Fairburn’s Lincolnshire Large Free Range Eggs and Extra Special Mixed Size British Blue Free Range Eggs.
Certain Costco stores have also been selling the eggs which may be contaminated with salmonella.
Those affected include the Fairburn’s Large Free Range Eggs, Fairburn’s Medium Free Range Eggs and British Blue Mixed Size Free Range Eggs.
All best before dates until November 20 are affected.
Customers who shop at Morrisons should also check the eggs they have recently bought.
W.M. Morrison Chippindale Mixed Size Eggs and Fairburn Loose Eggs are amongst the affected items.
Best before dates up until November 19 are affected.
Consumers should always follow good hygiene and egg handling practises when handing eggs including storing them in the fridge, using the eggs by the best before date, cleaning surfaces and kitchen equipment after use and washing hands after handling eggs.
The statement on the FSA website continued: “Consumers who wish to return the potentially affected eggs should contact the store from where they bought them for further information.
“Only the eggs listed above sold at the stores in the table are affected. No other eggs sold by these retailers or eggs sold at other shops are affected. There is no need to change your shopping habits for eggs or your usual cooking habits for eggs not listed above.”
