Son Heung-min beats Harry Kane and Aston Villa's Jack Grealish to win Player of the Month

Son Heung-min beats Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish to win his third Premier League Player of the Month award after scoring four goals and providing three assists in October

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min’s strong form has been recognised after he scooped the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.

The South Korean has hit the ground running this season for Jose Mourinho’s side. His almost telepathic connection with team-mate Harry Kane has wreaked havoc on a number of opponents, helping fire the side to second at the international break.

The attacker scored four goals and provided three assists over the course of October as Spurs thumped Manchester United 6-1, drew 3-3 with West Ham and beat Burnley 1-0.

The 28-year-old’s latest win means he has claimed the award three times, having won it in September 2016 and April 2017. He is also the first Spurs player to scoop the gong since Lucas Moura in August 2018.

Son fought off fierce competition to win the prize, with Spurs team-mate Kane nominated alongside Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, Wolves star Conor Coady, Pablo Fornals, Che Adams, Thiago Silva and Kyle Walker.

In total, Son has bagged eight goals in as many top flight games, putting him level with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy at the top of the scoring charts.

‘Thanks for voting me Premier League Player of the Month,’ the attacker said in a video posted on Instagram. ‘It’s a big honour, it means a lot to me. I’d like to thank my team-mates, we are one team,.

‘I can’t win this trophy without them so thank you so much. I will keep working hard and I cannot wait to see you again. See you after the international break.’

The South Korean’s blistering form has also seen him hailed as one of the league’s top stars, with Gary Neville previously comparing the attacker to Salah, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling.

‘I think Son is so understated and he doesn’t get the glitz of some of the other top players in the league,’ Neville said on Monday Night Football.

‘He is an absolutely amazing player Son, he is a brilliant player. It’d be a nightmare to play against him he makes all the right runs.

‘You talk about Sterling regularly, we talk about Mane and Salah at Liverpool, he’s right there with them. If he was at Liverpool or City he’d be doing what those lads are doing.’

However, despite his incredible form, Son does not feel he is one of the best players in the top flight.

‘I’ve never once thought I am among the best players in the Premier League. Honestly, I’ve never thought that for a moment,’ he told the Korea Football Association YouTube channel.

‘I have always tried to do my best for Tottenham and in the national team and try to show all my abilities. It feels different to play for the national team and for Spurs.’

Son won the Premier League goal of the season prize for his 90-yard slalom stunner against Burnley in 2019-20 but missed out on a place in the PFA team of the year.
