He has also overtaken the German for most podiums and most races finished in the points.
With his seventh championship now a formality, Hamilton will have plans to overtake Schumacher for the most drivers’ titles of all time next year.
“I think it’s something we’ll do, if not after the job is done, then particularly at the end of the year,” Hamilton added.
“But nothing is set in stone. I think it’s just about talking about it. And at the moment, I don’t feel like I’m finished.
“I think there’s always areas to improve. I love racing. I love the challenge. And I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon.”

Hamilton’s former F1 rival Felipe Massa, a former driver for Sauber, Ferrari and Williams, meanwhile believes the Brit is fully deserving of the kind of salary Schumacher earned.
Like Schumacher, Hamilton is paid more than any other racer on the grid but has proven worth every penny for Mercedes having won nine of 13 races this year.
“[Lewis] is just unbelievable,” Massa told the F1 Nation podcast. “He can really be the best of the best and everybody will say that for years and years, and maybe decades.
“So I think Lewis is just preparing… a two, three-year contract, which I think he deserves, to be honest.
