He will now be lining up with the other nine contestants at Gwrych Castle on Sunday night.
AJ said: “Thank you to ITV and the whole team for putting the safety measures in place to protect their staff and the celebrities. It’s been over two weeks already. I can’t wait to start my journey.”
Asked if he feared he might not make the show he has loved since childhood, he said: “I think the thing for me is I didn’t have any symptoms. It’s one of those scenarios in this crazy world we live in at the moment.
“I tested positive early on and knew I had more tests coming. I’m a very positive person, glass half-full.
“So I’ve got two negative tests back. I feel very confident and feel very fit and healthy and mentally just ready to start this journey.”
The 10 contestants have been isolating for several weeks andAJ’s positive test was thought to be some time ago. He self-isolated with girlfriend Abbie Quinnen and they celebrated his 26th birthday last week.
I’m A Celebrity, which usually takes place in the Australian jungle, is being staged in Gwrych Castle because of the pandemic.
The crew wear buzzers to ensure distancing – only the contestants and hosts Ant and Dec are allowed within six feet of each other.
Executive producer Richard Cowles said: “On a Covid level everyone has got proximity monitors. They can’t come within two metres of each other without them buzzing and flashing and reminding them to step away.”
Bosses also recreated a life-size layout of the castle in a studio to work out camera placements and other details away from the site. Some staff will stay in London to improve safety and cut the infection risk.
Richard said: “We have created a whole walk-through of that castle. So all of the set can be built remotely back here and then transported up there.
“Fibre technology means we can do that and it is amazing how technology changes the environment we work in and what we do.
“The thing about Covid is that it puts a massive, massive strain on the production team. Like we all know, the rules change daily and what you have to cope with is difficult and hard to contend with.”
He added: “The good thing about reality shows is where you put the cast in a bubble, you can put them in a space that is sealed from outside interaction.
“There is adaptability in the format. So long as you can get the off-screen stuff right and keep that Covid-safe, there is an opportunity for everyone.”
