Archaeology news: Treasures exposed in 3,000-year fortress from time of Bible's King David

Barak Tzin and Enno Bron, who led the excavations, said: “The complex we exposed was built at a strategic location on the small hilltop, above the El-Al Canyon, overlooking the region, at a spot where it was possible to cross the river.

“The 1.5m-wide fort walls, built of large basalt boulders, encompassed the hill.”

And the discoveries do not end there, as a number of ancient artefacts was uncovered within the fortress.

The objects include beads, a ring and a small figurine of a woman holding what appears to be a drum.

The archaeologists also uncovered a large basalt stone next to an altar or shrine, with an engraving of two horned figures with their arms spread out.
