Outlook down: Microsoft users left unable to access emails in massive outage

If you’re trying to check your Microsoft Outlook inbox with little luck this evening then you are not the only ones. It appears the hugely popular email service is currently down with thousands of users thought to be affected.

The issues seem to have begun at around 6 pm with the outage affecting more users by the minute. Hours after the first reports appeared online the service continues to have serious problems.

Independent outage monitor, Downdetector, registered over 6,000 reports at its peak from Outlook fans insisting the service is not working properly. Things did appear to be improving but, as of 9.20pm, Downdector is once again showing over 5,000 reports.

There’s no word on what is causing the gremlins, and Microsoft’s status page is showing no known problems, but it seems the bug has left many users unable to log into their inbox, check emails or send new messages.

As with most big outages, many frustrated fans have now taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

Posting on Twitter, one user said: “@MicrosoftHelps is outlook down can’t access email since last 10 mins.”

Whilst another added: “Outlook down! It says can’t login with a personal account on iPhone.”

And a frustrated Outlook user also tweeted: “I’m expecting an email regarding a job interview today, so of COURSE Microsoft Outlook is down.”

There’s still no word on what is causing the Outlook outage but we will update this article when we hear more.
