Conor McGregor comeback fight vs Dustin Poirier confirmed as UFC star eyes December return

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have reportedly reached an agreement on a rematch to take place on the UFC 257 card in January. McGregor last fought Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone back in January before announcing his surprise retirement from the sport.

Many within UFC doubted McGregor’s sincerity on not wanting to fight again though and rumours soon began on a quick return to the Octagon.

And a rematch with Poirier has long been touted as the favoured fight for McGregor.

UFC president Dana White recently revealed talks had progressed between the two parties.

“We’ve offered the fight and we got him his own date,” White told BT Sport. “That date didn’t exist.

“We worked with ESPN, we got him his own date. And we’ve offered them the fight. I know contracts haven’t been signed yet.”

And McGregor hinted an announcement was imminent earlier this month on social media.

Alongside an Instagram picture of himself at the gym, the Dubliner wrote: “McGregor’s Fighter Aerobic/Anaerobic Sytems of Training.

“Big News Coming. @McGregorFast.”
