Camping holidays: The UK’s most in-demand ‘glamping’ hotspots for staycations

This summer saw a boom in camping holidays as countries continued to put international travel restrictions in place. The UK’s travel corridor policy has put some holidaymakers off travelling abroad this year. Countries not included on the travel corridor list mean that Britons have to quarantine for 14 days on their return to the UK.

Some of these included Ladram Bay Holiday Park in Exeter, Devon; Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park in Gower, Swansea; Old Oaks Touring Park and Glamping in Glastonbury, Somerset; Langstone Manor Holiday Park & Cottages in Tavistock, Devon; and the The Quiet Site in Penrith, Cumbria.

Richard Lee, founder of Plankbridge, commented: “With many travel restrictions still in place, customer demand for staycations growing stronger by the day.

“Guest demand for unusual holiday accommodation shows no sign of slowing, and searches for ‘glamping’ has continued to rise during lockdown, with searches over the past 12 months peaking in the height of this summer, between July 19-25 2020.”

The Camping and Caravanning Club, which has more than 300,000 members across the UK, and represents more than 1,300 campsites said earlier this year that its bookings for next year looked positive.

Britons are not permitted to travel within the UK or abroad during England’s lockdown.

The government rules state: “If you live in England, you cannot travel overseas or within the UK, unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons, and you should look to reduce the number of journeys you make.”

During lockdown, Britons cannot stay in second homes, caravans, hotels or any other accommodation.

Britons also cannot stay with anyone they do not live with, unless they have formed a support bubble with a household.
