Stephen Colbert jokingly declares himself People’s Sexiest Man Alive… in a dig aimed at Trump for falsely claiming election victory

Stephen Colbert has mocked U.S. President Donald Trump for preemptively declaring victory late on Election Night, as the roller-coaster count continues.

During Wednesday night’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the 56-year-old host joked that he’d claimed his own early victory – as the cover star of People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.

‘Gosh, I hope this announcement doesn’t overshadow me declaring myself People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive!’ he said, in an obvious jibe to Trump, 74.

A mock-up of Stephen’s Sexiest Man Alive People cover flashed on the screen with him giving a feverishly animated grin.

‘I sensed a power vacuum in the sexy sphere. I’m coming for you, McConaughey,’ he said in a tease at Matthew McConaughey who won in 2005.

During his monologue Stephen also poked fun at the late-night timing of the president’s premature insistence that he had won.

Goofing around: 'If there's anything 2am is known for it's desperate moves by sad little men who are afraid to go home feeling like a loser,' Stephen quipped

People’s Sexiest Man Alive is generally declared at some point in November and this year’s pick has not been made public yet.

John Legend was officially given the title on November 13 last year, while Idris Elba was announced on November 5, 2018, an unusually early date.

The magazine’s first ever Sexiest Man Alive was Mel Gibson who won in February 1985 after becoming a star in America through the Mad Max films.

John F. Kennedy Jr. was the only dreamboat to earn the gong from the political world as all the other winners have been showbiz personalities.

The fifth titleholder was the original James Bond, Sean Connery, who died over the weekend on Halloween at the age of 90.
