Arsenal player ratings vs Aston Villa: Partey off at half-time, Holding and Lacazette flop

Arsenal faced Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday evening but the Gunners lost to Dean Smith’s side. Trezeguet and Ollie Watkins netted and Express Sport looked at just how Mikel Arteta’s side performed as they now go into the international break.

Arsenal player ratings vs Aston Villa – Premier League

GK: Bernd Leno – 6

Very little he could do for any of Villa’s goals, was bailed out by Ceballos after watching a Jack Grealish shot sail past him, only to hit the Spaniard on the line.

DC: Rob Holding – 4

A poor performance. Wasted a chance to level the game when he fired wide of the post from about six yards out.

DC: Gabriel – 5

Didn’t do too much wrong, but was let down by his defensive partners at times.

DC: Tierney – 6

A fairly decent performance, he looked promising going forward but poor at the back at times.

WBR: Hector Bellerin – 6

Like Tierney, looked promising going forward but poor at the back.

WBL: Bukayo Saka – 5

Failed to get into the game whatsoever and was punished by Arsenal’s poor build-up play.

MC: Thomas Partey – 6

Barely had anything to do throughout the 45. Taken off at half-time.

MC: Mohamed Elneny – 5

Stayed on at the expense of Partey and was poor. Looked visibly annoyed at team-mates for their inability to move the play forward.

RW: Willian – 5

Taken off after an ineffective outing, but was let down by the lack of chances created for him.

LW: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 6

Much like Willian, had a lot more to offer but was left wanting by a lack of forward passes.

ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 4

Wasted the best chance of the game in the first-half with a point-blank header, and failed to do much other than that.
