Tyra Banks talks a precarious wardrobe malfunction early on in the season of Dancing With The Stars

Supermodel Tyra Banks is no stranger to quick outfit changes.   

In a recent interview with Fox News, the 46-year-old host and executive producer of the hit show Dancing With The Stars got candid about a close wardrobe call she experienced early on in the season.  

Though she managed to thwart the malfunction from viewers’ knowledge, Tyra shared that she literally walked on stage ‘holding [her] dress together,’ in one episode. 

Signing on to the show, Tyra maintained that she wanted to bring an ‘element of fashion,’ to the stage which involves one to two outfit changes an episode. 

Despite bringing an added layer of glamour to the program, switching into intricate outfits with minutes to spare can pose a serious challenge while the cameras are rolling. 

‘I think it was the third or fourth episode, I walk out and my hand is on my back and I was holding my dress together,’ she said. ‘It was not zipped up! And I did not have on any of my jewelry.’

She eventually sorted the matter out as she shared, ‘You’ll notice, a couple of acts later my hand is down, I’m zipped up and I have on jewelry,’ which is all in the fun of live television. 

 Banks continued to give a bit of perspective on her fashion ‘rules’ for herself, despite having worn her fair share of wild outfits in her modeling days. 

‘You have to play to your strengths, so I play to making sure that the waist is snatched — because, if it’s not, I’m well-endowed naturally and it can look a little bit like a mumu,’ she shared. 

She continued, ‘I have very broad shoulders and sometimes the dress doesn’t really cover the shoulder… so it’s got to be wide enough,’ also adding that she has opted to forego satin on certain parts. 

‘Satin on my booty, shows cellulite, satin on my boobies on TV makes the size they already are ten times bigger, said Banks playfully, continuing ‘So there’s all these [things to remember], like a checklist.’ 

Standing at five-foot-ten inches, Tyra’s statuesque figure has changed in size over the years. 

Speaking about settling into her enviable curves at this point in her life, Banks shared that oftentimes wardrobe people underestimate her backside. 

‘Sometimes I put something on and I’m like, ‘OK, they obviously don’t know I got a booty,’ cause it’s something like off the runway.’

She continued, ‘Yes I used to model, I did fashion shows, fashion weeks, all across the globe — but I don’t have that body anymore. But for some reason designers just think, ‘Oh she was a model, let’s give her this size four.’

Always one to speak candidly – sometimes to a fault – Tyra jokingly clapped back, ‘Honey can you add a ten to that?’.
