Apple has had an incredibly busy fall, and before it gets even busier with the tech giant’s “One More Thing” event on Tuesday (November 10), three products still need to launch. The iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max and HomePod Mini are all up for preorder right now.
The 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max round out the iPhone 12 family as the entry point and the highest-tier flagship, respectively. Both feature a Super Retina XDR display with Face ID, run iOS 14 powered by an A14 Bionic chip and offer advanced imaging systems. For those who want flagship features without a massive device, the $699 iPhone 12 Mini fits the bill. With a 5.4-inch display, it’s remarkably compact, and it boasts the same features we were impressed with on the iPhone 12. The 12 Pro Max, on the other hand, is the largest iPhone ever, at 6.7 inches, and features a slightly different camera system over the 12 Pro.It’s still a wide, ultrawide and telephoto lens setup, but that last lens jumps to 2.5x optical zoom versus 2 on the 12 Pro. The intriguing HomePod Mini is also up for preorder at just $99, with orders arriving as early as November 16.
Unlike the $299 HomePod, the Mini aims to pump out the jams and power your smart home. Internally, there’s a woofer on the bottom and two front-facing speakers, while outside, it maintains the classic mesh design from the original HomePod.
The HomePod Mini is powered by the Apple-made S5 chip, which is the same chipset inside the Apple Watch SE and Series 5. That chip, in combination with the microphones, will power and enable Siri to respond to all your questions. You can ask for music from Apple Music, Pandora and other services. Siri can also give you a briefing of your day and control your smart home via voice commands. The HomePod Mini will also act as a hub for your connected devices, giving you control from anywhere.
The HomePod Mini is available in white or space gray for $99, and a plethora of retailers are taking orders now: Adorama, B&H Photo Video, Best Buy, Expercom and Target. And yes, you can pair two HomePod Minis together for a stereo experience, so you may want to preorder more than one.
