Supermarkets including Tesco, Aldi, Asda and M&S have remained open throughout the entire pandemic. They are now doing everything they can to help ensure their customers stay safe and to control the amount of customers in-store at any one time. Food stores have also updated their opening times as well as enabling certain shoppers special shopping hours throughout the week.
According to Google data, the quietest times to visit a Tesco is typically during the week between Monday and Thursday.
Friday is a little bit busier and the best time to visit on a Saturday is within the first hour of opening and the last hour before closure.
Sunday’s are typically busy all day due to their shorter opening hours.
In an updated letter to Aldi customers, Aldi CEO, Giles Hurley outlined the priority shopping hours and opening times for customers.
Sunday opening hours are reduced, like they have always been.
Asda is now offering 24-hour opening times in some stores to help the flow of customers.
Most stores are currently closing at 11pm or 12am but customers should check their nearest Asda opening times to avoid disappointment.
The supermarket giant currently doesn’t have any priority access for key workers or elderly and vulnerable shoppers, but they are doing everything they can to help manage the queue.
The quietest time to shop at an Asda is typically on a Thursday during all opening hours.
The busiest will be on the weekend but if customers wish to shop on a Saturday, then they should visit early in the morning or late in the evening.
Marks and Spencer is helping its customers by offering special shopping hours for its NHS staff and elderly shoppers.
Key workers have access to an M&S store for the first hour of trading on Tuesday and Friday but this only applies if there is a queue.
Elderly and vulnerable customers can also skip the queue within the first hour of trading on a Monday and Thursday.
Morrisons are allowing basket shoppers to skip the queue to help manage the flow of customers.
The quietest time to visit the store is before 11am, with the supermarket getting slightly busier at lunchtime.
Visiting on a weekday is also quiet, but in order to avoid queues, customers should do their shop early in the morning.
The busiest time to shop at Morrisons will be on a weekend with Saturday and Sunday morning being the busiest times.
On Sundays, NHS staff will also have 30 minutes before opening to shop without other customers.
