  • Real Madrid decided to part with the left back, selling him to Spurs for £30m
  • It is claimed he fell out with Zidane’s son Luca and was always sent out on loan
  • Reguilon completed a £30million move to north London and has started strong

Real Madrid reportedly sold Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham this summer because of a disagreement between the full-back and Luca Zidane, the son of manager Zinedine Zidane.

Reguilon completed a £30million move to north London earlier this year, providing Jose Mourinho with another option at left back.

It appeared to be something of a coup, given Reguilon had just played an important role in helping Sevilla to the Europa League final, which they won against Inter Milan, during a loan spell.

But it was clear he had no future at the Bernabeu and within weeks of returning to the Spanish capital he had sealed a move to Spurs.

Now, it is claimed by El Confidencial that Reguilon was sold because of a ‘disagreement’ with Zidane’s son, Luca.

Reguilon was briefly managed by Zidane in the Real B team, at the same time Luca was in the squad, but was loaned out to Logrones at the start of the campaign in which the Frenchman was promoted to the first-team job.

He was also loaned out to Sevilla at the start of 2019-20, Zidane’s first full season since he returned to the Bernabeu.

With Marcelo and Ferland Mendy in place at the Bernabeu, the decision was taken to sell Reguilon this summer after just 22 first-team appearances for Real.

Spurs have Reguilon tied to a contract until June 2025, but were forced to accept a buy-back clause of about £41m (€45m) from Madrid.

He has since made seven appearances for Tottenham since joining, providing three assists already.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Luca signed for second division side Rayo Vallecano last month.

He spent last season on loan at Racing Santander, playing 33 matches and then agreed to stay in the Spanish second division by signing for Vallecano.

Zidane only managed two appearances for Real Madrid’s senior side, having joined the club’s youth academy in 2004 when he was just six years old.

Luca made his professional debut for Real Madrid in their last league game of the 2017–18 season in a 2-2 draw with Villarreal.

His other appearance for Los Blancos came in a 3-2 victory against Huesca in March 2019.
