Chris Packham daughter age: How old is Megan McCubbin?

Chris Packham is a well-known nature presenter having presented regularly on Spring, Autumn and Winterwatch over the years. Tonight sees the end of the Autumnwatch 2020 series as it leaves our screens for another year. But what is known of Chris’s life away from his career?

How old is Megan McCubbin?

While Chris does not have a daughter of his own, he does have a stepdaughter from a previous relationship.

When Chris was with his previous partner Jo, he became a stepfather to her daughter Megan McCubbin, who was 12-years-old when they later separated.

Now grown up, Megan is a zoologist, conservationist, and photographer.

She is believed to be 25-years-old, and has moved in with him in his remote cottage in Hampshire, since lockdown began.

In a recent interview, Megan spoke of how Chris inspired her love of the outdoors.

She said: “He took me to art galleries, the opera and punk rock gigs – he showed me the whole spectrum.

“But when you go on set and there’s lion cubs around, it’s hard not to go down that route.”

“He’s a role model of mine professionally and it’s great that he happens to be my stepdad as well.”

Chris previously wrote about his and Megan’s relationship back in 2014, saying: “The relationship is all the more powerful because I have never been interested in having children of my own.

“Bluntly, I have never liked myself enough to even remotely consider reproducing myself.

“Perhaps there has been a touch of selfishness there, too: years as a loner, absorbed in nature, made it difficult for me to contemplate giving myself over to another human being.

“Yet with Megan, I have done just that, and the result is that we are linked by something far more powerful than biology.

“It takes one physical act to become a father, but so much more to offer a lifetime of proper friendship; a bond built on honesty, generosity and kindness that flows both ways.

“I may have watched Megan grow up, but it brings me no shame to say she saw me do the same.”

The presenter has since admitted why he has chosen to not have any children of his own.

He said: “At the time when I might have been thinking about it, I wasn’t terribly fond of myself.

“Why would I want to replicate something that wasn’t right?

“I’m not a baby person. I’m not a baby animal person if you want to know.

“Kittens – yeah, OK, but their legs are too short, their heads too big, their ears aren’t in the right proportion.”

Autumnwatch will air tonight on BBC Two at 8pm.
