Erling Haaland looks baffled by VERY awkward interview after scoring twice for Dortmund

‘Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?’: Erling Haaland looks baffled by VERY awkward interview after scoring twice for Dortmund… to leave Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards in stitches

  • The Borussia Dortmund striker was asked if he was ‘going to sleep lonely’
  • The forward scored two goals but missed out on taking the match ball home
  • Jamie Carragher and the CBS studio were as baffled as Haaland at the interview

Erling Haaland was involved in yet another awkward post-match interview as he was asked whether he would ‘sleep lonely’ after missing out on a hat-trick.

The Borussia Dortmund striker scored twice in his side’s 3-0 win over Club Brugge but fell one goal short of taking home the Champions League match ball.

Haaland, who is known for giving short answers to interview questions, was taken aback by the unusual question from the CBS reporter on Wednesday night.

‘Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?’ the reporter asked. Haaland replied: ‘Erm… yeah.’

The interviewer followed that question up with: ‘You’re not taking a girlfriend home right now, you didn’t score a hat-trick.’

The rather bemused striker then responded: ‘Didn’t score, no.’ The reporter then said: ‘That was it, thank you.’

Back in the CBS studio Jamie Carragher and his fellow pundits were amused by the interview with the former Liverpool star saying: ‘Jesus Christ, I thought we were all getting sacked!’

Micah Richards added: ‘I had no idea where that was going!’

But it seems there is some background to the reporter’s unique questioning style.

Back in November 2019, Haaland said he sleeps alongside his hat-trick match balls which he described as his ‘girlfriends’.

‘I sleep with the five balls for each hat-trick I have scored. I lie in bed and I feel good with them,’ the forward told Dagbladet last year.

‘I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends.’

The Norway international has scored two hat-tricks since then – on his Dortmund debut in January and in the Nations League against Romania in October.

The striker now has 26 goals in 28 games for the Bundesliga side and has racked up 14 goals in the Champions League – level with Brazil legends Ronaldo and Adriano.
