The security experts said one of the most “underreported aspects” of the American election is the role of “US Cyber Command and our intelligence community in preventing disruption”.
He said: “The best outcome for Russia is to have the integrity of the vote undermined.
“This means whoever becomes President will be perceived to have less legitimacy nationally and globally.
“In 2018, US Cyber Command shut down the main source of disinformation in Russia – the Internet Research Agency (IRA).
“This included identifying individuals inside the IRA and sending covert direct messages, letting home know we know who they are. As a result, 2018 had little to no disruption.”
As is stands, the election is still too close to call, but Mr Trump has seen the odds move more in his favour as polls close across the nation.
