Yellowstone season four is in the making and viewers are eager to find out which of the Dutton family members survived their various assassination attempts. John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) was targeted in a drive-by shooting and his fate was left hanging in the balance in the season three finale. Some fans think Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) will be the one to come to his rescue and save his life at the start of season four.

Will Rip Wheeler save John’s life after shock shooting?

Yellowstone is taking a break on the Paramount Network while season four is being filmed and in the meantime fans have been discussing what will happen next to the Dutton family.
In the season three finale, fans were shocked to see Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her father John set upon by unnamed assassins, with the ranch owner being shot by an anonymous killer.
In the final moments, John was seen bleeding, clutching his phone to his chest, and fans are worried he may not have survived the attack.
However, others believe Rip will swoop in to save his life and become the hero at the start of the fourth season, and they have taken to Reddit to discuss the theory.
Fan 23claw wondered if “nobody really dies”, suggesting “Rip saves John”, and other viewers have backed the theory.

AJ_612 said: “I think you’re 100 percent right too, Rip will hopefully be the one to make it to John (unless of course he can get up to drive to help, which wouldn’t surprise me at all considering how stubborn he is lol).
“Kayce [Luke Grimes] doesn’t need help in this situation, it’s just a Tuesday for him, and I can see Beth spending eight episodes in a coma or something in the hospital while Rip unleashes hell.”
Fans noticed how Rip was already on a journey at the end of season three, so they believe he will run into John by chance on the road.
Yellowstone fan 1cattaway said: “Rip is heading into town, that’s where they all headed this morning from the ranch so he should find John.” Others fear Rip may be the one to be killed off next season as “things are going too well for him”.
But others are hoping he and his partner Beth will both live, so they can adopt a child after her abortion trauma involving her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley).

Fans are keen to see Beth and Rip’s relationship develop in season four, and MarriageEguana suggested the new season will show their more intimate sides.
They said: “Season four should have a couple episodes dedicated to Rip and Beths honeymoon. Imagine a couple episodes or scenes where Beth takes Rip to a place like The Hamptons, South Beach, or Malibu and she has to teach his country ass how to live a life he’s never saw.
“It would be hilarious watching Rip go full cowboy on some hipster kids on the beach, him seeing how the rest of America is outside of beautiful Montana, and him getting accustomed to another lifestyle [sic].”
However, sadly fans believe the more likely story is Beth either died or was seriously injured after the explosive device was sent to her office, and Rip will go on a rampage to avenge her death.
NoddyW said: “Put it this way, after that finale, I don’t care who did set them up or what. All I want to see is Rip taking names and kicking a** and getting some avenging on.”

If the creators hope to send Rip off on another killing spree, he would have to suffer a few terrible losses, meaning either his father-figure John or his wife-to-be Beth.
Actor Hauser spoke to Esquire about whether there would ever be a world in which Rip does not get his revenge, and he said: “You know, that’s a great question, and you’ll find out. That’s something I’m not going to give ya. Soon enough.”
The interview took place amid the launch of the season three finale, so Hauser may be insinuating a change of direction for his character for season four.
During another chat with Paramount Network, Kayce actor Grimes explained Rip’s loyalty to John, saying: “Rip, his whole goal is what’s best for John.”
Hauser added: “John Dutton knows that when he passes, these kids aren’t ready.” In one scene John says to Rip: “These problems need to go away before I do,” to which Rip replies: “How far do you want them to go?”.
