AMC has given an update on what fans can expect from the sixth season, which sees the main group get separated having been torn apart by Virginia (played by Colby Minifie) and the Pioneers.

At the end of the fifth season Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James) left a poignant message for the group, telling them to “just live”, and this season will explore just how each member of the group interprets the message.

AMC said: “Some will find the stability and opportunity within Virginia’s communities to be intriguing, some will sink into darkness, while others will fight back against what has been forced upon them.

“Life behind Virginia’s walls will test each and every one of them in different ways, forcing them to define who they are in this new world.”

The series airs weekly on AMC at 9pm, and on BT TV in the UK.

In a breakdown of episode five, Dwight (Austin Amelio) and his ex-wife Sherry (Christine Evangelista) join forces with an unknown group in order to get back at Ginny.

But their plans are thrown into turmoil when Morgan offers his support, and members of the group find themselves caught in their own battle for power.

The show’s creator Scott Gimple announced the news of the sixth season last year and hundreds of fans expressed their excitement ahead of the episodes landing.

One fan said on Twitter: “Woot woot. Now. Don’t kill off Alicia or anyone else and bring back Madison.”

Season six will see a number of guests join the cast, including Demetrius Grosse as Emile LaRoux, a kind of assassin hired by Virginia to take down Morgan.

Michael Abbott Jr plays Isaac, a survivor Morgan comes across, and Damon Carney plays fugitive Walter.

The season so far has received a positive response, gaining an approval rating of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

A total of 1.59 million viewers tuned in to the first episode, so hopefully, the season will continue to gain traction in both the US and the UK.

Commenting on the first episode of season six, KamronOsborne said on Reddit: “It’s one the best ftwd episodes that they made. The ending was solid and I like that Morgan has the big axe because it has some symbolism that “Morgan Jones is dead”.”

Actors James and Alycia Debnam-Carey spoke to TV Insider ahead of the season’s release and the Britsh star explained how season five was not so kind to Morgan, who had been shot in the chest.

He now has a mysterious man following him, and he said: “I can say there’s a whole lot of trouble coming for Morgan, what you have seen is what you9 are about to get.

“There’s a really cool character they are introducing and he is coming after what is left of Morgan.

“We will have to wait and see if there’s much left after those two particular people come into contact with each other.

“It ain’t easy, let me say that. For whatever he finds he has left, it ain’t going to be easy.”

When asked if Morgan lived, would he take his “just live” advice from the previous season, he said: “It’s a slightly double-edged sword, it’s a piece of advice he will do his best to take but it won’t necessarily be for his own benefit.

“I think the people he said that to were the people he wants it to be true for.”

Actress Debnam-Carey explained how her character had attempted to see the potential beauty in her circumstances after she was imprisoned.
