Macron meltdown: Ambassadors to France lash out at 'rude' treatment from President's staff

Bold allegations have been levelled at Mr Macron’s government over how two of his highest officials, Emmanuel Bonne, and Alice Rufo, have treated foreign diplomats. Mr Bonne, who serves as the President’s diplomatic advisor and his deputy, have also been accused of verbal abuse to government staff. Such is the alleged abuse of officials, ambassadors have claimed they are now becoming “tired” of dealing with the government.

One ambassador of a G20 country, claimed the two officials have now done serious damage to Elysee’s reputation.

The official told Politico: “Ambassadors are 100 percent tired of the Elysée and its rudeness and they won’t be doing any favours in their capitals for Macron.

“It has done tremendous damage to the Elysee’s relationship with the diplomatic community.”

The ambassador then spoke of how an arranged meeting with Mr Bonne had been cancelled at short notice.

Although the ambassador did not act on the abrupt cancellation, it was noted by the official.

Amid the accusations levelled at Mr Macron’s two senior diplomats, the Elysee Palace has launched an investigation into the treatment of officials.

Such is the treatment of officials within the Palace, two advisors, Claire Thuaudet and Teymouraz Gorjestani have been placed on long-term sick leave by doctors.

One Elysee official said: “Signs were reported of the existence of potential difficulties tied to workload and we are looking to understand their origin to find ways to improve.

In response, the Turkish President claimed Mr Macron needed a mental health check, thus causing France to recall its ambassador.

Mr Erdogan said: “Macron needs treatment on a mental level.

“What else can be said to a head of state who does not understand freedom of belief and who behaves in this way to millions of people living in his country who are members of a different faith?”

He then called on world leaders to protect Muslims and demanded Turkish people boycott French goods.

France and Turkey have also clashed over oil exploration in the eastern Mediterranean.

Turkey has deployed vessels to detect oil and gas in disputed waters causing France to send naval vessels to the area.

Mr Macron has also been critical of how the Turkish President has run the country and stated the country needs better leadership.

Mr Bonne and Ms Rufo declined to comment on the claims reported by Politico.
