Conan said on Monday that ‘someone broke into our little theater and took some of our equipment,’ revealing they took laptops and the slate.

‘We come to this theater, because we thought theaters are in trouble, let’s revive a theater, let’s keep it going,’ Conan explained.

‘Seemed like a nice thing to do… what happens? We get here this morning and we find out that someone broke into our little theater and took some of our equipment.’

‘We got robbed, Andy,’ telling his sidekick Andy Richter. ‘Robbed!’

Conan brought out his field producer Jason Chillemi to reveal exactly what was taken.

He said they took several laptops that they use to conduct Zoom interviews as well as the slate, the wooden clapperboard used in shows and films for timing and kicking off different scenes.

It was just a wooden slate, not an electronic one.

Conan said: ‘What’s a robber gonna do with this thing,’ referring to the slate. ‘It’s what kids use, it’s what 16-year-olds use to make a student film.’

Adding: ‘They took that, that’s the lowest. I can’t think of anything lower. Okay, the laptops – fine. [Before] you took the slate? That’s crazy.’

Conan said that ‘whoever broke in here had to stare at 350 cardboard cutouts of exuberant fans in the eyes and say, “Hey, don’t mind me. I’m going to steal some s**t.”‘

The cameras panned to the cardboard cutout audience that was set up.

Conan spoke to Andy, jokingly remarking what the show has become since ‘no one breaks into The Tonight Show and steals all the equipment.’

Adding: ‘What happened to us? We’ve become this garage band that drives around. We’ve got our van and we parked it in an alley, and someone broke in and took our amps.’

Conan noted: ‘What is that? This doesn’t happen to the other talk show hosts.’

‘What kind of new low is this for us,’ he said with a laugh. ‘Man, just for the laugh alone, maybe it’s worth it.’

Conan announced in July he would be filming at the Largo theater; he had asked fans to submit photos of themselves to fill the seats.
