Meghan Markle tribute: The touching honour Meghan paid to Princess Diana in new interview

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry are no longer working members of the Royal Family, but this has not stopped them making appearances for causes close to their hearts such as speaking out against systemic racism and urging Americans to vote. But what touching honour did Meghan pay to Princess Diana in the Sussex couple’s latest virtual appearance?

Meghan never met Princess Diana who died in August 1997.

But she has honoured her on several occasions over the years, such as with her engagement ring which featured two diamonds which once belonged to Diana.

Upon their engagement, Prince Harry said: “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s Meghan’s favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.’”

Last year the ring was upgraded from a Welsh gold band, typical for royal bridges, to a diamond eternity band.

In the Time100 Talk featuring Prince Harry and Meghan, the couple discussed the need to drive change for communities both online and offline.

The Duchess of Sussex said: “It can feel really overwhelming to try to understand all the nuance of what happens online.

“It is all-encompassing and it affects us at a multi-faceted level. And so we started with professors and experts in the field, with defectors from some of the largest platforms, neurologists – people to really help us view it through a holistic approach.

“And in that there have been relationships, and now friendships, that we have formed with a lot of these people who have a shared goal of wanting to make this space healthier and better for all of us.”

Prince Harry added: “What is happening in the online world is affecting the world. It is not restricted to certain platforms or certain social media conversations or groups.

“This is a global crisis – a global crisis of hate, a global crisis of misinformation, and a global health crisis.”

The Sussex couple also spoke about how much they were enjoying spending quality time with their only son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan said: “We’re just trying to embrace all of the quality time we get with our son right now and not miss a single moment of his growth and development.”

The couple launched their new website which honours their son Archie today: the Archewell Foundation.

Archewell will be the home for the couple’s projects going forward after they were forced to close down their SussexRoyal site when they quit their senior roles.

The website reads: “Arche…Greek word meaning ‘source of action’.

“Well… a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep.”
