Marcelo Bielsa says Leeds were WRONG to rule Kalvin Phillips out for six weeks with shoulder injury

Marcelo Bielsa claims Leeds were WRONG to rule Kalvin Phillips out for six weeks with shoulder injury as he suggests midfielder could be back sooner

  • Kalvin Phillips sustained a shoulder injury in Leeds’ 1-0 defeat by Wolves
  • The 24-year-old midfielder was initially ruled out for up to six weeks
  • But Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa now says that information is ‘incorrect’

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa says his club were wrong to release information stating that Kalvin Phillips will be out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.

The club said on Tuesday that the England midfielder did not require surgery after landing awkwardly during Monday night’s 1-0 defeat by Wolves, but that he could be missing until early December.

Bielsa, though, does not agree with that prognosis.

He said: ‘I understand that the information is incorrect. It’s not defined how long he will be out for. It could be more or it could be less.’

Phillips has won four England caps this season and Gareth Southgate was at Elland Road on Monday to see his player forced off late on.

It is likely that the 24-year-old will now miss next month’s internationals, and Bielsa said: ‘An injury is always uncomfortable, it always comes at an inopportune time. But it comes at a moment that is very special for Kalvin.’
