The First Lady of the United States has criticised those spreading rumours in a blog post shared on the White House website. Ms Trump said news outlet’s coverage of former advisor Stephanie Winston Wolkoff was interfering in her work, ultimately affecting the younger generations she is trying to help.

She explained that her mission as First Lady was to provide children with the tools they need for their future through her campaign BE BEST.

She wrote: “BE BEST has one simple purpose—to help children.

“It serves to provide the tools children need to prepare them for their futures.”

However, she argued that “more often than not, information that could be helpful to children is lost in the noise made by self-serving adults.”

Ms Trump went on to reference Ms Wolkoff’s book, Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady, which contains highly private conversations between the two women.

The former model added: “I have most recently found this to be the case as major news outlets eagerly covered salacious claims made by a former contractor who advised my office.

“A person who said she ‘made me’ even though she hardly knew me, and someone who clung to me after my husband won the Presidency.

“This is a woman who secretly recorded our phone calls, releasing portions from me that were out of context, then wrote a book of idle gossip trying to distort my character.

The tapes were released during an appearance on Mea Culpa, a podcast presented by Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer.Speaking on the programme, Ms Wolkoff said:

“Needed to let a reporter listen to the tapes, because the White House made sure that people didn’t believe what I was saying … once I had already been severed and accused of criminal activity.”

She added: “The White House created a narrative because I didn’t follow along with the one they wanted.”

Ms Wolkoff, a fashion and entertainment executive, became a senior advisor to Ms Trump, as well as her friend, becoming one of the key planners for President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
