Netflix spared no expense with character Emily Cooper’s wardrobe for Emily in Paris, allowing Costume Designer Marylin Fitoussi and Consulting Costume Designer Patricia Field to go wild. And that they did – many of Emily’s outfits are like a Patricia Field fever dream, with bright colours, clashing prints and OTT accessories galore that Sex and the City fans will find instantly recognisable.
Emily is rarely seen without her phone in hand, capturing the moment – even if that moment is a dog relieving himself on the pavement.
The only thing more striking in this scene, pictured below, is Emily’s outfit.
Her white scalloped edge Freed boots are Vivienne Westwood, and are now sold out.
Discussing her shoe choice in this scene, Patricia Field said: “I love her Vivienne Westwood white boots, with the wavy scallop top.
“I love a white boot, I was always reaching for a white boot when Darren and I worked together on Younger. It’s light, it makes the foot come off the ground.”

Emily was also dressed in cool-girl labels (despite most definitely not being a cool-girl herself – that was left to the show’s resident Parisienne Camille), and one of those was Ganni.
Her yellow and black look, below, is one of the more wearable, down-to-earth outfits seen on the show.
The top and skirt are both Ganni, while the large belt is by Rag & Bone.
Patricia Field designed the matching bag to tie the look together.
One of the most criticised elements of the show is Emily’s berets.
They are a massive cliché, and yet they are exactly what a starry-eyed young American would wear during their first trip to Paris, so in my opinion, the berets are spot on.
The clashing print outfit, below, is modern and fun – with Emily’s clothes complementing those of her boss, Sylvie, with the houndstooth and pop of pink.
Discussing the use of accessories, Marylin Fitoussi said: “I love accessories even more than clothes because they are able to elevate a look.
“I always tried to shop at little boutiques in Paris from young designers or fashion collectors, because I’m sure that I can find pieces that make the difference.”
Patricia Field said she was influenced by Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, and nowhere is this more apparent than for Emily’s night at the opera, above.
The black tulle dress is by Christinan Siriano, paired with a vintage purse, gloves by Agnelle and a stunning head band by La Compagnie du Costume. Only the use of (vintage) fur tarnishes what would be an otherwise perfect ‘American in Paris’ look.
A pair of black and silver glitter shoes by Cosmoparis completes the lavish formal outfit.
Describing this standout look, Field said: “The outfit Emily wears to the opera in Episode 106 is channeling Audrey in Funny Face.
“It all came together so naturally, and when I saw Lily in that costume I was like, ‘Audrey Hepburn is here.'”
