Antarctica mystery: Melting ice uncovers 'ancient object' on Google Maps – online frenzy

A bizarre disc-shaped object spotted on Google Maps in Antarctica has sparked an online frenzy of conspiracy theories. Footage uploaded last week by conspiracy theorist channel MrMBB333 showed what he labelled an “intelligently designed craft” hidden by ice and snow. The video, titled ‘Melting Ice Reveals Undeniable 60ft Wide Disc Stuck in the Ground of Antarctica! “Ancient Craft?”‘ has been viewed nearly 360,000 times.

The host of the conspiracy YouTube channel described the bizarre object found on Google Maps, saying: “It looks like an intelligently designed structure sticking out of the ice in Antartica.”

He measured the object as 60ft-wide, with half of it exposed and the other half under thawing ice and snow.

The YouTuber continued: “Its origins are unknown. We don’t know if humans did this or if it came from something else.

“We don’t know how long it’s been there either. You can clearly tell that this object is out of place.”

He added: “Under multiple enhancements you will see features on top of the dark grey disc and it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the ground.

“You can see a reflection on there, which gives you an idea that this is made of metal.

“This is one of the best spots I’ve seen in Antarctica.”

Footage of the object, described as ‘saucer or disc-shaped,’ sparked a debate online about its veracity.

They explained: “There are similar such pools scattered around the area.

“The image has been rotated 180 degrees to mess with the shadows and make it appear as though the object is protruding out.

“If you correct the rotation then the shadows clearly show it is concave rather than convex.”

However, MrMBB333 later offered a rebuttal of claims that tried to dismiss the finding, saying he could prove it was “absolutely not water”.

Comments under this rebuttal video noted: “If you’re getting more negative comments than normal, and folks saying you’re being deceptive, it says to me that you’re on to something real.”
