“Robert Snodgrass who played yesterday in a holding midfield role scored a wonderful goal. [Felipe] Anderson is a fantastic player, [Andriy] Yarmolenko had two assists last night.

“Unfortunately we have got a very unbalanced squad.”

Since then, however, Brazil international Anderson has gone out on loan to Porto for the campaign while Snodgrass and Yarmolenko do not feature significantly in manager David Moyes’ plans for the season.

The Scot has instead preferred a front three of Pablo Fornals, who is naturally a midfielder, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham have signed midfielder Tomas Soucek and right-back Vladimir Coufal – both from Slavia Prague – as well as centre-half Craig Dawson from Watford so far this summer.

According to reports from Bleacher Report, Moyes would prefer his superiors to sign another centre-back rather than Benrahma.

He wanted the likes of James Tarkowski, Wesley Fofana and Nikola Maksimovic in the summer but failed in bids for the trio.
