iPhone 12 pre-orders start today, but Mini and Max fans face a longer wait

Apple revealed its shiny new iPhone 12 range during an online event broadcast from its HQ in Cupertino, California earlier this week. As expected, the US firm unveiled four smartphones, including an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, Pro Max and all-new 12 Mini which brings a more pocket-friendly 5.4-inch all-screen design to the range for the first time.

All of these devices arrive with improved cameras, fast A14 Bionic processor, stronger glass, vibrant OLED screen, and access to the latest 5G data speeds. This next-generation network technology allows users to download files and films at speeds of over 300Mbps, which is around six times faster than most people’s home broadband. In fact, Apple said its new iPhone models were capable of handling speeds of over 1.5Gbps – that’s faster than the fastest fibre broadband connection you can currently buy from BT or Virgin Media!

If that all sounds exciting, you can pre-order some models from today with those first in the queue expected to receive their new devices on Friday, October 23. From 1 pm, you can order the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro but sadly, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini aren’t available until November 13, with pre-orders starting on November 6.

It’s unclear why the Mini and Max are being released at separate times, but the ongoing health crisis may have caused Apple some supply issues.

Along with all of the UK’s major networks expected to feature enticing deals to buy one of these phones, Apple has also launched some helpful incentives to make things more affordable.

If you have an older iPhone you can trade it in and receive up to £230 off the price of a new handset and there’s also the option to pay for the device over two years interest-free. This means the entry-level iPhone 12 model can be yours for £33.29 per month.

“The arrival of 5G marks the beginning of a new era for iPhone and we’re thrilled to bring these impressive new capabilities to our customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“We’re once again pushing the boundaries to deliver incredible computational photography advancements, Super Retina XDR displays, and the biggest leap in durability in iPhone history with the new Ceramic Shield front cover. Available in two great sizes, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini take design to a new level in a new form factor that’s as beautiful as it is durable, and makes it easier than ever for customers to find the perfect iPhone to fit their lifestyle.”
