Piers Morgan’s furious rant at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: ‘More pathetic hypocrisy!'

The Good Morning Britain host, 55, has become renowned for his verbal onslaughts of the Sussexes, since their decision to depart from senior roles within the Royal Family. In his new book, Wake Up, which was released today, he lambasted Meghan and Harry for publicising their “vacuous new lives” in the US. In one diary extract, the ITV star vented his frustration over the royal couple’s demand to be out of the public eye while they also regularly posted on social media.

In the book, Piers recounted the Sussexes’ fallout with the British press over coverage and in a statement told the public that they longed for a “quieter, more private life” – especially for their son Archie.

He sniped that “naturally” this meant they “washed up in Beverly Hills, the paparazzi epicentre of the world” and would live in a “palatial home”.

The TV host claimed he didn’t “want to have to think about these two anymore” in an April extract, as coronavirus continued to spread across the nation.

Piers wrote: “But they keep hurling themselves into the news cycle as if they’re desperate to wrestle our attention back from a mere pandemic.”

He also attacked their approach to “ban four British newspapers from their lives”, which he mocked as the statement was sent “to the world’s media”.

Piers wrote: “‘That’ll show ‘em!’ they clearly thought to themselves as they sat back in their luxurious mansion to wait for the inevitable applause and attention they’ve been missing for so long.

“Only, all it showed us was what a pair of preening tone-deaf little twerps they really are.”

When Meghan released a video of her and Archie reading the children’s book Duck! Rabbit! on May 6, Piers’s frustration peaked.

He fumed: “On every level, this seems completely at odds with her and Harry’s professed desire to protect their son from public attention, and just more pathetic hypocrisy.”

Piers said that the outrage led him to write a brutal comment on Twitter to criticise the former US actress for her post.

He recalled: “I started to compile a tweet along those lines, but then stopped halfway through.

“What am I doing? There’s a pandemic raging, so am I seriously going to waste even more time b***hing about Meghan being a hypocrite again? Who cares?

“I’ve been asking myself these same questions for the past few months since the crisis started, then lazy succumbed to old click-baiting habits.

“It’s time to stop being distracted by this trivial c**p and focus on what matters. I pressed delete and went back to watching the real news on TV.”

The rare decision to suppress his opinion came after a brutal rant about the duo in April, where he branded Meghan and Harry “self-obsessed, privileged wokies”.

Piers wrote: “They live in a me-me-me bubble that doesn’t allow for anything more important, like the worst global pandemic in a century to interfere with their self-promotion.

“When their grandkids sit on their knees and ask, ‘Granny, Grandpa, what did YOU do in the Great Coronavirus War?

“The Sussexes will be forced to reply, ‘We moaned about our own beastly media coverage.’

“Meanwhile, Captain Moore quietly got on with pounding his garden and raising tens of millions of pounds for those on the frontline.

“He is what we should all aspire to be. They are what we should all aspire not to be.”
