The 23-year-old told the club’s official website: ‘I’ve played for a lot of clubs – Monaco, Nice, in Germany, but Newcastle, I feel like it’s my home.

‘The supporters give me a lot of love, the coach too, and my partners on the pitch.

‘Everybody gives me love and when you have this, I feel it’s my home and I hope this stays my home for a long time.

‘Every club I’d been before, the fans loved me – but not like the Newcastle fans.

‘That’s really important, because for me, you have the football and everything, but you have the human and they give me something different. So if I can give back to the supporters and to the club with a new deal, I’m really happy.’

There has been interest in the 23-year-old given his outstanding debut season in the Premier League and he has carried that form into this campaign.

Securing his future at St James’ Park is a major boost for head coach Steve Bruce, who praised the influence of the ‘maverick’ following his starring role in Newcastle’s 3-1 win over Burnley before the international break.

Indeed, Bruce’s side have played 15 Premier League games without him in the starting XI and have won just one. With him they have 12 victories from 26.

Magpies manager Steve Bruce said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted that he’s committed his future here. We’re delighted to be keeping him – and he’s delighted to be staying.

‘I’m sure the supporters will be delighted with the news. He’s had an introduction now to what life in the Premier League is like and with Allan, the world is at his feet.

‘He can go as far as he wants to go, because he’s got the talent to do it.’

Saint-Maximin has quickly emerged as a fan favourite on Tyneside and Bruce knows the importance of keeping him happy and healthy.

‘If we can keep Allan fit he will get people off their seats, he can do things that other people can’t,’ said Bruce. ‘He is explosive. He is a goalscorer and a threat.’

Saint-Maximin’s previous deal had his wage some way below top earners such as Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey.

The player feels he deserves a contract reflective of his worth to the team and the club have met his wishes in a move that will delight supporters.
