Manchester United players ‘disappointed’ with treatment of Sergio Romero after club priced him out of deadline day loan move to Everton… which forced an angry outburst from his wife on social media!

Manchester United’s decision to drop Sergio Romero and not allow him to leave for a cut-price fee has left his team-mates disappointed, according to reports.

Romero has started the season as United’s fourth-choice goalkeeper behind David De Gea, Dean Henderson and Lee Grant.

The 33-year-old had hoped to leave the club before the Premier League transfer deadline last week but the club refused to let him leave for less than £10million, which put off Everton among other potential suitors.

ESPN report that Romero’s team-mates have expressed their disappointment at the goalkeeper’s treatment and believe he deserves better after five years at the club.

After being put behind Henderson in the pecking order, Romero was dealt a further blow when Grant, 37, was registered as United’s third goalkeeper in the list submitted to UEFA for this season’s Champions League.

Sportsmail reported last week that Romero, who is expected back in Manchester this week after a break back home in Argentina, had the chance to move on loan to Everton before United asked for a fee.

The Toffees opted to sign Robin Olsen from Roma and Romero was left without his deadline day move.

There is still a chance of moving to America where the transfer window is open until October 29.

Romero’s camp is clearly unsettled with his wife, Eliana Guercio, hitting out last week on social media when it became clear he wouldn’t get his move to Everton.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘It is a very sad day because he desired the chance to go to another club,’ she wrote. ‘He has worked hard every day for this, because he gives his all for United and I think that his chances of playing for United have gone down.

‘This doesn’t sound right to me. It doesn’t appear honest or professional or serious that they have to let him go. I am very sad because of this.’
