Man Utd confirm Edinson Cavani is out of Newcastle clash as debut date is decided

Edinson Cavani will not be available for Manchester United this weekend for the trip to Newcastle due to quarantine regulations, the club have confirmed. Supporters were hoping to see their new signing ‘El Matador’ in action at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon but they will now have to wait until at least Tuesday (October 20), when United take on Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League campaign opener.

Of course, that means there is added spice for Cavani, who will be making his return to the Parc des Princes where he spent seven years.

Cavani left PSG earlier this year, after failing to agree a short-term contract extension to finish their season following the postponement of Ligue 1.

The Uruguay international is the club’s record goalscorer having found the net 200 times following his arrival from Napoli in 2013.

Now Cavani will be out to make a statement against his former side, should he receive the nod from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“We’ll be looking for a property where we can have access to the countryside and enough space for when we have our pets with us. So we can enjoy what’s going to be our new life in Manchester, this new chapter in our lives.

“So, I’m very positive and really excited, and I can’t wait to be able to get started, and start training and preparing at the club’s training ground, ahead of pulling on that shirt.”

United will also be without fellow striker Anthony Martial for the trip to Tyneside.

The Frenchman was shown a straight red card for violent conduct following handbags with Erik Lamela in the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
