Hong Kong is also expected to experience sudden thunderstorms due to a northeastern monsoon. The Hong Kong Observatory has forecast that a low pressure, which is currently located near Luzon in the Philippines, could develop into a tropical cyclone in the next few days.
People along the South China coast have been warned to prepare as the possible tropical cyclone could gradually strengthen.
The low pressure located in the middle to the north of the South China Sea is set to move towards the Chinese province, Hainan Island.
On Sunday, Tropical Storm Lotus collected about 90 kilometres south of Da Nang in Vietnam.
The storm is forecast to move westward at 18 kilometres per hour across central Vietnam.
The Observatory said the current low pressure area near Luzon has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone in the South China Sea area.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday in the South China coast due to the northeast monsoon.
China’s Central Meteorological Observatory also said the low pressure system in the South China Sea will be active in the next 10 days.
It is predicted to generate about two typhoons, according to the Chinese forecaster.

The typhoons will bring strong winds and heavy rain in the South China Sea and southern China.
With Tropical Storm Lianhua, there could be up to three tropical cyclones affecting the area in a short period of time.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory’s forecast for the next 9 days, Tuesday and Wednesday will bring cloud, rain and sudden thunderstorms.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) issued a standby number 1 signal on Sunday as the tropical cyclone makes its path towards the South China Sea region.
It is a precautionary signal which asks vessels to take shelter measures and “seek shelter in haven”.
Command Colonel Zhang Nandong, a spokesperson for the PLA’s Southern Theatre said China demanded that the US end its actions.
He said America’s actions were “blatant navigation hegemony and military provocation”.
He added that the US had “seriously violated China’s sovereignty and security interests, and gravely jeopardised peace and stability in the South China Sea”.
Mr Zhang continued: “We urge the US side to immediately stop such kind of provocative actions, strictly manage and control its maritime and air military operations so as not to cause any eventuality.”
China has claimed sovereignty over the entire South China Sea which has been disputed heavily by the US.
