Mariah Carey Says That Having The Twins With Nick Cannon Was What Led To Their Divorce

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon seemed like they were soulmates and even today, the man still says that is the case! However, as you know all too well, the two artists are actually not together anymore!

Now, the songstress opened up about why it did not work out between them, leading to their divorce years ago.

It turns out that what took the biggest toll on their relationship was having their babies together.

Obviously raising twins is not easy and that was especially hard for Mariah and Nick.

This is what she writes in her new tell all book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the star explaining how becoming parents doomed their romance and marriage as a whole.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon tied the knot back in 2008 and in 2011, they welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan.

Having two babies to raise while also navigating their busy careers really put pressure on their marriage.

Mariah writes in her memoir that ‘Along with double the joy came double the responsibility. It was a lot of work and a lot of having to be home and available. Making the necessary adjustments to being working parents in entertainment took its toll on our relationship, and the end of our marriage came fast, as it began. Even though we had prenuptials in place, the divorce took two years to become final and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees.’

In 2014, the two separated, Nick proceeding to file for divorce at the end of that same year, although it was finalized in 2016.

Obviously, becoming parents was not the only reason for their split.

The singer admits in her book that ‘Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed (which can translate into many billable lawyer hours, and ultimately, it did. It was tough. We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family.’
