Kate Garraway's heartbreaking confession on attraction to husband: 'There was no way'

The ITV presenter has candidly spoken out about her partner of 15-year’s health struggles after he tested positive for COVID-19 in March. Draper spent months in a coma and has since been in and out of intensive care during his battle. He is one of the UK’s longest survivors of coronavirus after 184 days in hospital. This week, Garraway blasted anti-face mask and anti-lockdown protesters this week on ‘Good Morning Britain’. She stated that their opinions on the safety measures meant to prevent the pandemic’s spread would drastically change if they had seen her husband’s condition. A friend told The Sun that Draper “shows signs of improvement” and then within 24 hours takes “a worrying turn for the worse”.

Garraway has broken down in tears multiple times on ‘GMB’ while discussing her husband’s health and admitted that being unable to see him due to restrictions has made it harder.

She met Draper through Gloria De Piero, then the political editor on ‘GMTV’, and felt there was an “instant connection” between them.

Despite her sweet words, the TV star candidly admitted it was unlikely the couple, who have two children together, would have got together if they had met online.

Garraway claimed there was “no way” she would have swiped right to match with Draper on Tinder but added: “And actually, he’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”

She added: “I wouldn’t have picked my husband from a picture on a dating app, and I don’t think he would have picked me either.

“I’m definitely not his normal physical type, but we had chemistry from the start.”

Shortly after Garraway and Draper started dating, she was hospitalised for nearly two months after doctors discovered a cyst on her kidney that they feared was “something more sinister”.

“I’m very short, so he felt solid, warm and comforting. But it was also his mind – what he said and the way he said it. I do think the mind is the sexiest organ of the body.”

Garraway added that one unusual part of their relationship is that they are “open about finding other people attractive” and regularly point it out to one another.

She said: “Maybe that’s because, in my experience, the men who pretend to never look at other women tend to run off with them!

“At the school fête… there was a very hot ice-cream seller – I mentioned this to Derek and for the past week he’s been teasing me about Mr Whippy, Nobbly Bobblies and 69s.”

Garraway felt that “kind of banter” and honesty kept their relationship healthy and she also confessed that jealousy wasn’t a bad thing either.

She added: “I also like making him a little bit jealous every now and again, reminding him that I am alive and someone might fancy me – especially as he knows I would never act on it.”
