Games with Gold October 2020 overshadowed by big Xbox news for November

Microsoft has a lot going on next month and they’ve just announced another big reveal on the same day as the October Games with Gold. While the latest batch of free games have failed to make waves with fans, we do know of some other exciting stuff happening soon. For now, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can look forward to the release of the latest Games with Gold free titles, including the following:

Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut: Paying homage to classic ‘80s trash horror, play as Skullface, an adorably demented villain, out to terrorize camp counselors and any other blocky victims he finds. New dimensions of absurd terror and over 300 fiendish puzzles await in this isometric puzzle game.

Maid of Sker: Do not panic, don’t even breathe! Set in a remote hotel with a macabre and gory history, use stealth tactics to stay alive against a cult of sound-based enemies. Inspired by chilling tales in Welsh folklore, do your best to survive and brave the nightmares of the Quiet Ones.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy: Inspired by the mythology of ancient Egypt, play as Sphinx, and his reluctant hero friend, the Mummy, as they travel the world to foil the evil plans of Set. Use stealth, agility, and special powers to find the stolen magical crowns of Egypt and save the world.

Costume Quest: Collect super-powered magical costumes and level up your hero in the monster-filled neighborhoods of Auburn Pines. Complete numerous quests, build up your party, and take down evil in the Halloween tale that will capture the imagination of kids and the kids-at-heart.

As you might notice, there are no AAA games on the list for October, and none are expected to be added after they go live.

But in November, the Xbox Game Pass will be expanding again, this time with a new library of title to choose from.

The inclusion of EA Play with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will start in November with Xbox consoles, followed by PC players later in 2020.

The official announcement from Microsoft confirms: “Earlier this month we announced that we’ve teamed up with Electronic Arts to provide Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC members an EA Play membership at no additional cost.

“Today I’m announcing that starting November 10, EA Play will be available on Xbox consoles, including Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and beginning in December, members with an Ultimate or PC subscription will be able to download and play games from the EA Play library on Windows 10 PCs.

“That means we will have a whole new collection of games coming your way on console and PC, and that some of the best EA Play games will also be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play on Android devices via the cloud.”

While Game Pass Ultimate gamers will have to wait until November for EA Play, Doom Eternal will be joining the service on October 1.

This is part of the Bethesda acquisition, with Microsoft telling fans earlier this week: “One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda’s future games, coming to Xbox console and PC including Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios and Doom Eternal, which is coming to Xbox Game Pass on October 1 and for PC later in 2020.”
