Consumer watchdog Which? has warned drivers that a temporary extension on Blue Badges comes to an end on 30 September which could see many drives caught out. The Department for Transport (DfT) previously advised local governments to relax the rules surrounding blue badge fines due to the pandemic.
The new restrictions mean drivers should not try and use their old badge even if their new one has not yet been delivered.
Drivers can apply for a new Blue Badge from just £10 in England and £20 in Scotland.
Each new badge lasts for up to three years and gives a driver the benefit of parking in certain restricted areas.
This can include exemption from parking restrictions and access to bays positioned closer to facilities and attractions.
Drivers can apply for a new Blue Badge through GOV.UK or through their local council services.
Drivers will simply need a recent photograph, some proof of identity and your address to apply for a pass.
Motorists will also need to submit proof of any benefits you may receive as well as details of their current blue badge and their National Insurance Number.
For new applicants, local councils will usually decide within 12 weeks whether or not to issue a pass.
If your application is unsuccessful drivers may be told why they were not eligible for a Blue Badge.
Applicants can then ask them to reconsider a case or can reapply if their mobility issues become more serious in time.
The new fines are just a part of a series of changes coming into effect for motorists throughout September.
Earlier this month the DVLA announced an extension on driving licences which are set to expire between February 1 and December 31 offered an 11 month amnesty.
The DVSA has also increased the number of driving tests made available to learners after a surge in demand to book exams.
