Michael Jackson Lisa Marie marriage: 'I never wanted that from him, it was BS'

Michael Jackson married one of the few people in the world he thought could understand what he was going through. Lisa Marie grew up with probably the biggest music star in the world at that time as her father. She lost Elvis Presley when she was just nine years old. As an adult, for eighteen intense months she was married to the biggest music star in the world of his era. They shared a unique connection, even if the watching world did not understand it. So why didn’t it work? What did Lisa Marie really want from their marriage? The year after his shocking sudden death in 2009 she spoke out.

Lisa Marie spoke about how much she had tried to look after her husband.

She said: “I loved taking caring him. It was the highest of my point of my life, when things were going really well and we were united together. He and I had an understanding about the people and things that would go around him. He was with me on those things and we were a unit and I could take care of him.”

She angrily denied the common belief that many held about her motivation for the marriage.

Lisa Marie said she only wanted to help Michael: “in spite of what some people speculated while I was with him that I wanted a career (from being with him), which was BS.

“I don’t like attention on me. I loved being next to him and taking care of him. I was on such a high doing that. It was a very profound time in my life. It was real, as far as that goes.”

She cited as an example one of their most famous appearances together at the 1994 MTV Music Awards and how everything started to go wrong.

Lisa Marie hit back at the belief she was powerless in the relationship: “They just assumed I was going along with what he was doing…”

In fact, she says she fought to make her husband understand he was surrounding himself with “vampires”, people she believed were using him and not holding him accountable for his own behaviour.

Lisa Marie said: “I felt we were so united and at some point he pushed me out. There was a very profound point when he had to make the decision. Was it the drugs and vampires (sycophants) or me. And he pushed me away.”

They had married in May 1994 and by December 1995 it was all over.
