Quarantine: 'Mystery' country remains on travel corridor list despite surge in Covid cases

Yesterday, the government updated its travel corridor list based on the latest epidemiological data. Slovenia and Guadeloupe were both removed from the travel corridor list which means if travellers arrive in the UK from these destinations after 4am on Saturday, they will need to self-isolate for 14 days. Anyone caught flouting the quarantine rules could face a fine and a criminal record.

CEO of travel consultancy, The PC Agency Paul Charles has been posting updates on Twitter regarding countries’ infection rates.

Today, he said that Denmark remaining on the travel corridor list with no quarantine measures in place was a “mystery”.

He said: “Fri update: The mystery continues – #Denmark remains off the quarantine list despite a surge in case numbers. It is now above #Portugal.

“#France and #Spain well above the #USA – no chance of borders opening to #Europe soon. #Italy and #Turkey managing crisis well.”

He added: “It’s worrying that #UKGov have lost focus on their #quarantine policy.

“It is inexplicable that #Denmark was not added yesterday when 822 positive #Covid cases were recorded in the last 24hrs – the highest ever and almost 100 percent up on the day before. Cases are surging.”

The country has recorded 42.5 cases per 100,000 people over a seven-day period which is above the UK’s preferred threshold.

The country has recorded more than 21,000 cases of coronavirus, at the time of writing.

However, it has only recorded 635 deaths from the virus.

Yesterday, it recorded 453 new cases and one new death which is dramatically below most other countries in Europe.

Denmark is currently discouraging its residents and citizens from taking trips to Austria, Hungary the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland, due to an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases.

Arrivals from these countries into Denmark will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.
