Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides Jadon Sancho transfer update

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remained coy over his pursuit of Jadon Sancho but admitted he was in talks with his superiors about potential targets after only landing Donny van de Beek so far this window.

“Of course, we’ve done some business with Donny, very happy delighted to get him in, an exceptional smashing lad that’ll give us something,” Solskjaer said.

“I can’t say anything about other clubs’ players, can’t speculate.

“We understand to get further we need to develop what we have and strengthen the team but let’s wait and see if we manage to bring anyone in.

“I’ve been in dialogue with the club, we’re always discussing and let’s see if we can bring anyone in.”

United have been trying to sign Sancho all summer but are reluctant to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £108million asking price.

“I know goalkeeper coaches are enjoying working with them and the stuff they do, some of the stuff is fantastic and it’s gonna be an interesting, interesting thing for many to follow.

“I know it’s great to see Luis Enrique talk about David the way he did after internationals.

“Coaches who work with players have got the respect and he shows his respect, when he talks about it’ll be nice if press talk about what a great goalkeeper we have, and it’ll be great if the press write about but Sergio has not come back yet, he’s had some extra time, to write about not problems between the two of them but they’ve worked really well together.”

Solskjaer also explained why he opted to sign Van de Beek for £40m from Ajax.

“That was his first goal was for Ajax against Molde,” he added. “We hadn’t really prepared for him too much because he was one of the young ones.

“He caught my eye. I saw a brave boy, but also someone who was clever with his movement. That has been his career with Ajax, he has developed and developed.

“I think we needed to add goals from midfield and he is one of those who will give us runs in from behind, and he adds to the squad really nicely.”
