Liverpool confirm Thiago Alcantara transfer as Jurgen Klopp secures second summer deal

Liverpool have announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara on a four-year contract from Bayern Munich. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer long with personal terms seemingly not being an issue.

Bayern Munich had been holding out for £27million, but they’ve now accepted a deal with Liverpool paying £20m up front with an additional £5m in add-ons.

He becomes Liverpool’s second signing this window after the club brought in Kostas Tsimikas earlier this summer.

Before the announcement today, Klopp said at his press conference ahead of the Chelsea game: “It’s just about timing.

“Sometimes you buy before you sell, sometimes you sell before you buy.

“Sometimes different scenarios. Sometimes you don’t buy now but you buy later and sometimes you earn the money back in different ways.

“The only thing which is always true with us is what we earned on football, we spend on football. That is the short summary of the philosophy of the club. One of the key points.

“We cannot just say ‘This year we need this and that, and we cannot afford it’ – and I wouldn’t insist on it. But this season we worked constantly on improvement.

“Sometimes people like it, sometimes they like it later.”
