Bayern Munich confirm Liverpool agreement over Thiago Alcantara transfer

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Liverpool have met their £27million asking price for Thiago Alcantara and a transfer could be completed in the coming days.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German publication Bild: “I can confirm that Bayern and Liverpool have an agreement.

“It was the wish of Thiago at the end of his career to do something new.”

Liverpool were able to do business for a reasonable modest fee of £27m because Thiago has only nine months remaining on his contract.

The Reds could have signed a pre-agreement with the 29-year-old in January.

But they have opted to move early as Jurgen Klopp needed extra strength in depth in his energetic midfielder.

Liverpool will attempt to retain their Premier League title this season and Thiago’s experience will certainly help.

The Spain international was a key part of the treble-winning Bayern side which also won the Champions League last term.
