Lucifer season 5B spoilers: Aimee Garcia opens up on 'heartbreaking' change for Ella

The Biblical drama returned for an exciting round of eight new episodes last month as Netflix released the first half of Lucifer’s fifth season.

Following an unexpected delay on the show’s season finale when the coronavirus pandemic hit the States, fans are now waiting patiently for Lucifer to resolve its jaw-dropping cliffhangers from the season finale.

The titular Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) finally went toe-to-toe with his evil twin brother Michael in the latest episode, before their squabble was interrupted by the arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert).

Now ‘Lucifans’ have to endure a hiatus of an undetermined length before Tom Ellis and his co-stars can complete work on the back half of season five.

In the meantime, viewers are still concerned for the LAPD’s bubbly CSI Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) after she went through a traumatic experience with a serial killer.

Journalist Pete Daily (Alexander Koch) seemed like her perfect match, until the geeky reporter was revealed to be a sociopathic murderer.

Ella suddenly found herself in the middle of Silence of the Lambs when she discovered Pete’s secret room, and she barely escaped with her life when the cold-blooded killer threatened her moments later.

After a string of bad luck in the romance department, Ella was left traumatised by her experience with Pete and could begin season five part two an entirely different person.

Thankfully, Ella managed to escape her troubled background, but a brush with a notorious serial killer could once again lead her down a dark path.

The optimistic forensic expert has admitted in the past she has a tendency to gravitate towards problematic romantic partners, and she may have to face up to her romantic foibles when Lucifer returns.

Although Ella is widely known as one of the series’ most positive characters, her Catholic guilt and built-up trauma could lead to a drastic change of heart.

Garcia continued: “To have someone like [Ella] just have one of the hardest, darkest moments in the whole show, you’re like, ‘Oh, man, that’s rough.’”

“I don’t know what the emotional ramifications of that will be for her, going forward. She’s like, ‘God, what does that say about me, that these are the kinds of people I pick to open up to? Maybe I’m not who I thought I was.’

“That’s so tragic. It’s so tragic when a good person wonders if they’re a good person.”

Hopefully Ella doesn’t beat herself up about it too much, as even the most perceptive fans were lured in by Pete’s charms before the veil was lifted.

Lucifer Season 5, Part 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
