PS5 pre-order news: Great update for PlayStation 5 fans ahead of Sony reveal

So far, Sony has only allowed a limited number of people to register their interest in the PS5 pre-order process. But with a big announcement for this week, gamers are hoping that a final date for when they can start placing their orders will be revealed. The tech giant is hosting a PlayStation 5 showcase on Wednesday, September 16, and its look set to be a big one. Hopes are high that we will find out the final PS5 price, as well as when fans can start getting ready for the big launch.

Sony hasn’t shared anything past the news that its event will be running for 40 minutes and will focus on games coming to the platform.

A message from Sony adds: “Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!).

“Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.

“Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.”

With so much time to fill, there’s a good chance that we will finally learn the key details still alluding us, like the PlayStation 5 release date and price.

We’ve already found out some good news for gamers waiting to get start with pre-ordering a new console.

Niko Partners senior video game analyst Daniel Ahmad has revealed that Sony will be using Air Freights to help keep up with demand.

The full report from Ahmad reads: “Sony is using air freight to ensure that PS5 can meet demand/supply enough units

“The company has booked 60 flights from October (Delta 747) to ship consoles to retailers. This supply is expected to last through the quarter. Air freight is faster than sea, but more expensive.

“Just to clarify one point. I’m not 100% certain if this is 60 flights, or 60 aircraft. But it does sound like each flight will be full.

“Source for this is Delta Air Cargo head Jerry Tai. The information for this being from Delta means that they would not be aware of or communicate Sony’s plans with other airlines/sea freight

“It’s unlikely the above covers all shipments/channels. It’s also worth noting that these flights are for the US.”

What there won’t be is any news regarding other hardware projects, such as the PlayStation VR 2 headset.

This is rumoured to be in production but won’t be available this year, the good news being that plenty is being planned for the PSVR.

As Sony confirmed earlier this year, “Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

“PlayStation Camera will work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that will be provided at no additional cost to PS VR users.

“More details on how to get the adaptor will be announced at a later date.”
