PS Plus free games UPDATE: Big news for PS4 fans in October

New PS Plus free games for September 2020 are out now and include some interesting choices for PS4 gamers.

But though PlayStation console owners can jump into the Battle Royale world of PUBG, or the popular beat’em up universe of Street Fighter V, another choice is arriving in the coming week.

And this one will be a free download for one of the year’s biggest multiplayer releases. So as you can imagine, there’s going to be a lot of interest.

It as revealed earlier this year that Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is hosting an open beta multiplayer test across all platforms.

The good news for PS4 gamers is that they will get the most time to test out the new COD, with several free weekends being planned.

Some of these will be open to those who have pre-ordered the game, while others will be available for everyone to download.

This upcoming Cold War beta won’t come with access to the Campaign or Zombies Modes, but it will give COD fans a taste of what to expect online.

But one important rule to know about this upcoming test is that you will need a PS Plus subscription to play online.

Free games available on the PlayStation Store don’t require PS Plus, so you can see how there might be some confusion on the subject.

But it appears even though you can download the open beta for free, you will need to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription during October to join in.

The first Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War open beta launch dates have been announced by developers Treyarch, and confirm that the first weekend of multiplayer action will be released on October 8, 2020.

It should be noted that the first Call of Duty Cold War beta will be on PS4, followed by other platforms. Activision has also confirmed that the first COD open beta will be coming to PS4 on October 10.

Weekend Two of the Cold War beta will include players from Xbox One and PC who have pre-ordered the game, as well as open access for all PS4 players.

October 17 will be the start of the Call of Duty Black Ops open beta for everyone, running until October 19.

OPEN BETA WEEKEND ONE

  • OCT. 8-9: PS4 EARLY ACCESS
  • OCT. 10-12: PS4 OPEN BETA

WEEKEND 2 CROSSPLAY BETA

  • OCT. 15-16: XBOX + PC EARLY ACCESS + PS4 OPEN ACCESS
  • OCT. 17-19: OPEN ALL PLATFORMS

Activision has confirmed that the final weekend of the Cold War beta will include cross-play, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy it with friends from other platforms.

It’s unclear whether any other surprise betas will be held over the coming weeks on the PS4 platform.

We do know that there is still plenty of time to download September PS Plus games selection, which includes the following:
