The Premier League newcomers were just minutes from securing a point at Anfield but for a Rodrigo foul in the penalty box.

Salah stepped up to net his second from the spot and hand Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points.

Salah said on Sky Sports: “It was at times so tough to play, especially here at Anfield without the fans

“They pressed well and their intensity was really high. We had a good game. We shouldn’t have conceded three but overall we did a good job

“They’re a tough team and they reacted really well.

“They scored three goals against us so we have to keep improving.”

Liverpool and Leeds both struggled defensively in the match as the attackers took centre stage.

The Reds took an early lead but Marcelo Bielsa’s side hit back every time they snuck ahead.

That was underlined by Klopp saying ‘Wow’ on the full-time whistle as he knew the champions had to work very hard for the win.

Liverpool return to action against Chelsea next Sunday at Stamford Bridge (4.30pm).

Many have tipped Frank Lampard’s side to challenge the Reds for the Premier League title this season.
