Huawei P30 and P40 Pro owners could need to DITCH Android to get access to latest features

At HDC 2020, Huawei said HarmonyOS will be open sourced, which could raise the possibility of other Chinese smartphone makers ditching Android for the upcoming OS.

And even if that doesn’t happen immediately, having all new Huawei phones running HarmonyOS will take a sizeable chunk out of Google’s market share.

In Q2 of this year Huawei shipped 54.8million smartphones as they bested Samsung and Apple to become the biggest smartphone makers in the world.

Samsung and Apple were in second and third place respectively, while Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and OPPO were in fourth and fifth place.

China is, and has been since 2012, the biggest smartphone market in the world, accounting for 882million smartphone users in 2019.

And this huge figure is only set to grow further in the coming years.
