Officially dubbed the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), the project was operational from 2007 to 2012.
Mr DeLonge said: “All of a sudden, lo and behold, the world finds out we actually had a real programme with $22million of taxpayer money to actually look at UFOs, but nobody wanted to talk about it.”
Although the existence of extraterrestrials remains a controversial topic, Mr DeLonge believes the evidence is stacking up.
He said: “Over time, as science moves and it evolves and we’re starting to take these things more seriously and understand some of the other parameters about it, I just think that we’re gonna find – I assume, I don’t know – but my gut is that we’re going to find out there’s a lot more to this.
