Lisa Marie was only married to Michael Jackson for 21 months, from April 1994 to January 1996 but they were friends for years before romance blossomed. She also revealed that they saw each other for over four years after they separated, traveling together and discussing rebuilding their marriage. Michael saw her as one of the only people in the world who could see beyond the circus of his life. A decade after they separated they shared another emotional conversation when he told her she had been right about all the damaging people in his life and begged her to tell him if she still loved him.
Lisa Marie said: “He (Michael Jackson) tried so hard and went through so much with me. He’s never done that with any other female or anyone, as much as we went through…
“When we were together were really in love and had the rough patches and then I had to make the decision to walk because I saw the drugs and doctors were coming in and they scared me and that put me back into what I went through with my father – and that ended it.”
Lisa Marie said she had tried to persuade Michael to look more closely at all the bad influences around him, but ultimately he refused to listen to her or hear anything he didn’t want to.
Many years later as his life fell apart, he came to her and admitted she was right.

She spoke to Oprah Winfrey the year after Michael’s death in June 2009 about their heartbreaking final conversation.
Lisa Marie said: “It was a very long conversation. I was so removed and he could hear it and feel it…
“He was checking to get a read, throw a line out to see if I would bite.
“He wanted to tell me that I was right about a lot of people around him. That it had panned out to be exactly what he and I had talked about years ago.
“He asked if I still loved him and I told him I was indifferent. And he didn’t like that word and he cried…”
Lisa Marie posted an emotional blog on June 26, 2009, the day after Michael was found dead.
She wrote: “He stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, ‘I am afraid that I am going to end up like him (Elvis), the way he did.’
“I wanted to “save him” I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened. His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn’t know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then…
“I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date… I am truly, truly gutted.”
