Nintendo Switch fans have today seen some surprise news drop out of nowhere, with a brand new Hyrule Warriors game based on Breath of the Wild getting revealed by Ninty.
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is being developed by Nintendo and Dynasty Warriors makers Koei Tecmo, with the upcoming musou game set 100 years before the events of BoTW.
The official Nintendo Twitter accounts revealed the upcoming Hyrule Warriors game, which has a release date this year of November 20.
The Nintendo of Europe Twitter posted: “Introducing #HyruleWarriors: Age of Calamity, coming to #NintendoSwitch on 20/11.
“Witness the events of the Great Calamity first-hand and try to save Hyrule from destruction! #Zelda”.
A first-look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive was also revealed in a YouTube video that features Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma.
In the video Aonuma-san revealed that the Zelda team are currently hard at work on Breath of the Wild 2 and fans will have to wait “a bit longer” for updates on the highly anticipated title.
But in the meantime Zelda fans will have “a different way…to experience the world of Hyrule” with the upcoming new Hyrule Warriors game.
As the name suggests, the new Hyrule Warriors game will let players see first-hand the Great Calamity that was so often mentioned in Breath of the Wild.
While the game’s producer Yosuke Hayashi, from Koei Tecmo, said Age of Calamity was developed in close conjunction with Nintendo’s Zelda team who were involved “in every step of the process”.
The Zelda team all had an input on gameplay, graphics, world and dialogue which is unlike the previous Hyrule Warriors games.
